A new piano for St Agnes
With the resumption of in-person services this September we will be joined by two gifted musicians. Tae Maeda and her husband, Tak, have for the past twenty years been the musicians-in-residence at Mt Olivet Lutheran Church. With the recent closure of that church, the Maeda’s were looking for a new church home. Fortunately, they found St Agnes! Tae is a well-known pianist, teacher and children’s choir director. Tak is an accomplished trumpet player and leads several community bands on the North Shore. He is also an experienced choir director. We look forward to their musical offerings at the 10:15 service beginning in September! In the meantime, we have been presented with a rare opportunity to buy a high quality piano at a very reasonable price. It is a Knabe piano with a full grand piano sound board, but measures only 5”9” long. It is owned by a local woman who is downsizing and wants to find a good home for the instrument that her children and grandchildren learned to play on. It is beautiful instrument that has been very well looked after. A few weeks ago Tae, Tak and I went to see it. Tae played it (as per the photo) and Tak did a thorough visual inspection. He said there was not a mark or a scratch on it. The instrument was recommended by the man who tunes our piano. He has worked on it himself and said it is in top shape. The price is $3500. Parish Council members have pledged $1300. We need another $2200 to meet our goal. If you can contribute a few dollars or a few hundred dollars, it will be gratefully received. If you can pledge an amount this week (you can always send the cheque in a little later if that works out better for your finances) it will help us meet our goal and arrange to have it moved into the church in August. Just send an email indicating your pledge amount to the office: office@saintagnes.ca, or call 604 987-0432. Thank you! |
Summer Supper Club: Picnic in Victoria ParkAugust 18: Save the Date! This year our annual Summer Supper Club will meet outdoors at Victoria park. Bring your own picnic and a lawn chair. We will gather at about 5 PM and enjoy each other's company after a long absense of social time together. Victoria Park is on Keith Rd. between St. Georges & Chesterfield. On the west side of Victoria Park (west side of Lonsdale between Chesterfield and Lonsdale) alcoholic beverages are allowed, on this side of the park only, and there are 2 portable toilets on this side of the park. Some street parking in Victoria Park has no time limit- others are only 2 hours. Apparently there are no time restrictions on 6th St. or 5th St. |
A lovely vacation
Thanks to everyone who contributed to the gift certificate for Burrowing Owl in Oliver, BC. Our week in wine country began and ended with a stay in this lovely resort. We saw some beautiful scenery, had some wonderful food and yes, brought home a car load of wine. We plan on sharing it with family and friends, especially now that covid restrictions on social visits have been lifted. Our last stop was in Abbotsford to pick up our new puppy, Chico. He was born May 1 and loves to wake us up at 5:30 AM sharp. Thanks again! Stephen & Shannon
