Refugee fundraiser a rousing success!

Refugee fundraiser a rousing success!

The church hall was packed the evening of Friday, May 5 for an evening of great Celtic music performed by A Casual Arrangement.

The 18 member band featuring guitars, fiddles, recorder and more entertained an enthusiastic standing room-only audience.

Great food was provided by the Steamworks food truck which was parked in front of the church.

$2000 was raised to support refugee sponsorship by the Regional Ecumenical Sponsorship Team (REST).

Spring Tea on Coronation Day

Spring Tea on Coronation Day

It wasn't planned that way but our annual Spring Tea also happened to be on Coronation Day, May 6. While we enjoyed our English style tea with delicous scones with clotted cream, a replay of the Coronation of Kings Charles III played in the background.

Hanging baskets were sold for Mother's Day, and an impressive selection of handcover ($1) and paperback (50 cents) were offered.

A steady stream of visitors came to enjoy the tea and peruse the books. The beautiful hanging baskets from Growing Smiles were sold out. Shannon Muir offered her beautiful hand made pottery for sale.

Thanks to Jean Kyle for coordinating the event, and thanks to everyone who donated books!

Diocesan Synod

Diocesan Synod

Friday and Saturday

The 122nd Synod of the Diocese of New Westminster will convene today and tomorrow, May 12 & 13, at the Italian Cultural Centre in Vancouver.

The Synod is a gathering of clergy, delegates and guests which happens every two years. The theme this year is “Jesus said: I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10b)

In addition to Fr Stephen, the delegates from St Agnes this year are Eric Bozman and Ken Lindsay.

Please pray for the Synod as it meets:

Almighty and everliving God, source of all wisdom and understanding, be present with those who take counsel in the Synod of this diocese for the renewal and mission of your Church. Teach us in all things to seek first your honour and glory. Guide us to perceive what is right, and grant us both the courage to pursue it and the grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
