St MatthewSeptember 21: Holy Day honouring St. Matthew, Apostle and Evangelist "Today we honour St Matthew... Matthew was a tax-gatherer when Jesus called him. The fact that Jesus consorted with the likes of Matthew, and even called him into his circle of disciples, was one of the things that scandalized (people) the most." For All the Saints, p 288. Matthew is the first book of the New Testament, and is the one which features Jesus' most famous sermon, the Sermon on the Mount which includes the Beatitudes. The wonderful stained glass over the front door to our church features four traditional emblems which represent each Gospel. Mark is a Lion, Luke an Oxen, and John an Eagle. Matthew is represented by a human being. According to the window's designer, Laura Gilroy: "St. Matthew the Evangelist is symbolized by the “Divine Man” because his gospel teaches us about the human nature of Christ, signifying that Christians should use their reason for salvation." Next time you're in church, take a look at the window above the door, and give thanks for St Matthew. For more infomation visit:

Safety for Seniors
RCMP Sgt Kevin Bracewell was the guest speaker for the first Seniors' Moment lunch of the season. He spoke about safety for seniors and had some great common sense tips on how to avoid trouble. Betty Geddes was back in the kitchen and made a very fancy beef stew served on giant mushroom caps. Delicious! For more infomation visit:
